Riverside, CA – July 25, 2016 – HHCI’s project performance on the Southern California Edison El Dorado Substation Waterline project earned an overall 3.9 out of 4.0 scorecard rating, representing the highest score ever received by a SCE contractor!

Riverside, CA – July 12, 2016 – HHCI’s Eagle Canyon Dam and Debris Basin project has been recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) selection committee as the 2015-2016 Project of the Year. The $10.6 million project was the first dam constructed by the Riverside County Flood Control District since 1993. The Dam is designed to hold 185 acre‐feet of water, 40 acre‐feet of debris and removed 190 acres and 500 structures from the mapped floodplain. This milestone project now provides flood and hazard mitigation, by protecting Cathedral City from rain torrents and debris funneled downstream.

Each year, the ASCE recognizes exciting and innovative new civil engineering projects built throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, and this year HHCI faced some stiff competition between the projects vying for Project of the Year.

Riverside, CA – May 12, 2016 – HHCI’s Safety Program for excavation operations earned PG&E’s Gold Shovel Standard certification, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to employ the most stringent safety practices. In order to achieve certification HHCI met and exceeded established safety benchmarks, conducted ongoing training, and safely performs all excavation actions. HHCI earned the Gold Shovel designation following extensive review of the firm’s Dig-In Prevention Policy (DPP) and confirmation of HHCI’s executive-level commitment to ongoing, specialized safety training. The certification process reviewed and verified the following:

PG&E Gold Shovel Program

PG&E launched the Gold Shovel Standard, a first-of-its kind excavation safety program, to reduce dig-ins and protect PG&E’s underground gas and electric system. With safety as its highest priority, PG&E developed the Gold Shovel Standard Certification process to ensure that PG&E’s hired contractors adhere to the safest excavation standards to prevent injuries, property damage, inconvenient outages, project delays and high costs.

Riverside, CA – April 21, 2016– Since 2006, the Wayne B. Hays Scholarship program, in memory of Hal Hays’ late father Wayne, has awarded $84,000 in scholarships to our employees and their family members in pursuit of higher education. These smart students, who aspire to become future engineers, teachers, and doctors, face rising college expenses and many are the first-generation to attend college. Scholarship winners are announced at the annual HHCI Christmas party and Hal’s mom, Louise, is present to congratulate all the winners.

This year HHCI expanded the program to designate scholarships for Native American students in tribute to the Hays family’s native heritage. Awardees include:

• Jolina Gray – a high school senior with a 4.0 GPA, is from Tsaile, AZ within the Navajo Nation. HHCI presented her with a $5,000 scholarship award to provide resources for college application expenses in pursuit of her higher education goals.
• American Indian Chamber Education Fund – HHCI donated a $2,000 scholarship in support of the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of California’s Scholarship program. Scholarships are presented annually during the Chamber’s Native American Heritage Month Commemorative Luncheon held each November.
• Jessica Torres – Currently attends the University of Phoenix and works at Big Bear Middle School in the Special Education department. She was awarded a $2,500 scholarship from HHCI. Her educational goals are to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Liberal Studies along with a General Education teaching Credential. Jessica is eager to shape the lives of young children and create well educated future leaders of our society.
• Eduardo Pacheco-Morales – His goal is to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Art and Animation at DigiPen Institute. He is a first-generation college student and is eager to complete his studies and begin fulfilling his dream of a career path in creative arts. With the help of a $2,500 scholarship from HHCI, Eduardo is able to pursue his career goals and enhance his skill set in the areas of Digital Art.

Riverside, CA – April 11, 2016–HHCI successfully completed a multi-million dollar project in Cathedral City, CA. and served as prime contractor and builder to construct Eagle Canyon Dam. This milestone project took two years to complete and now provides a safer environment preventing future damage for local businesses and homes. With a range of economic, environmental, and social benefits, this 85-foot structure is capable of retaining up to 185-acre feet of water and 14-acre feet of debris. It can also handle an inflow of water equal to 50-swimming pools every minute!

HHCI is proud of all the hard work and dedication that went into completing this project. Eagle Canyon Dam now provides flood and hazard mitigation, protecting Cathedral City from rain torrents and debris funneled downstream. The successful completion of this project demonstrates HHCI’s expertise in large infrastructure projects.
