In The Community

In keeping with Hal Hays Construction’s corporate mission, the firm’s commitment includes contributing to the communities where we do business and where there is great need. To date, HHCI community service program’s monetary and service donations total $1.82 million to 21 nonprofit organizations.

Examples of HHCI’s community service projects include:

SHERMAN INDIAN HIGH SCOOL PROGRAMS & NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITY SERVICE

HHCI performs charitable acts to support the communities where we do business and where there is great need. A special initiative focuses on the Native American community in support of education, career and personal development. These programs include the Sherman Indian High School Mentor Program and Saturday Construction Workshops. Students from Sherman Indian High are provided with hands-on activities like painting, power tool use, and proper hammer technique, all in a safe environment, supervised by industry experts.

Sherman Indian High School Beautification Project
The HHCI team is proud to commit to corporate social responsibility with Sherman Indian High School where students worked side-by-side with HHCI’s team of experts to learn and experience various construction skills. A day-long project consisted of painting instruction and beautification of Ramona Dormitory. A special thank you to Home Depot, Dunn Edwards, and Chick-Fil-A for donating plenty of supplies, paint, and food!

Wayne B. Hays Scholarship Program
This year HHCI expanded the program to designate scholarships for Native American students in tribute to the Hays family’s native heritage. Awardees include: Jessica Torres, Eduardo Pacheco-Morales, and the American Indian Chamber Fund. Sherman Indian High School student Jolina Gray, was awarded a $5000 scholarship in pursuit of higher education.

CITY OF RIVERSIDE

Mission Inn Run
HHCI is a sponsor for the 31st annual Mission Inn Run, which is an 8K run through downtown Riverside. The purpose of the run is to support family fitness activities and the city’s health initiatives and programs.

Keep Riverside Clean and Beautiful
HHCI is a member of this wonderful organization that promotes activities in the City of Riverside that will not only beautify the City of Riverside, but also contribute to the environment. HHCI will participate in the “Riverside Celebrates Trees” event that will add 200 newly planted trees to the city.

CHILDREN OF FAMILIES

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.-San Diego Alumni Chapter Annual Raymond T. Robinson Memorial Christmas Bike Giveaway
HHCI provides monetary support to the Kappa Alpha Psi’s annual bike giveaway to brighten children’s holiday spirit. The San Diego Alumni group donates over 80 bikes and helmets to San Diego Elementary schools and community organizations.

Local High Schools Sports Teams
HHCI supports local sports teams with donations for equipment and uniforms. We have proudly sponsored:
• Ramona High School Girls Varsity Basketball team (three years)
• Woodcrest Christian High School Cross Country team (one year)

HHCI looks forward to continued support of our local high school sport teams.

Ability Counts Program
HHCI proudly sponsors Ability Counts, which is a non-profit employer for mentally and physically handicapped adults. Ability Counts, Inc. is based in the Inland Empire and provides employment to over 200 people in the area.

MILITARY

2010 Hero Event
HHCI will provide sponsorship for the 2010 Oceanside Chamber Annual Golf Hero Event to be held on June 3rd. This event provides an opportunity for HHCI to treat young marines and sailors to a round of golf.

Care Packages
HHCI sends care packages to its employee’s relatives that are currently deployed in Iraq and overseas. The care packages,comprised of snacks, phone cards, and letters of encouragement and gratitude, are made from donations by HHCI employees.

Seabee Golf Tournament
This year marks the third year that HHCI has sponsored a hole at the annual Seabee Golf Tournament. The proceeds of this tournament support the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association, which is a non-profit organization established to provide assistance to the dependents of active, reserve and retired U.S. Navy Seabees.

2008 Seabee Ball
HHCI sponsored and attended the 66th Seabee and 141st Civil Engineering Corps Anniversary event in support of the Navy’s mission and to honor the Navy’s outstanding members.

EDUCATION

SAME’s Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Initiative Bridge Elementary School
HHCI will sponsor Bridge Elementary School in Los Angeles, CA as a part of the SAME LA Post Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) Committee’s “adopt a S.T.E.M. School Initiative”. HHCI is contributing to the goal of SAME’s initiative to support the Department of Defense’s “STEM Up” contract by working with the Great Minds in the S.T.E.M. organization to help encourage growth in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math in the underprivileged areas of the Boyle Heights community.

SAME San Diego and Los Angeles Post Scholarship Trust
HHCI will donate to the Scholarship Trust established by the San Diego and Los Angeles Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). Each Post enables the awarding of 12 scholarships to deserving students in 2010. The scholarships support undergraduate students pursuing college degrees in engineering or architecture, as well as one eligible Post member pursuing a post-graduate degree.

Wayne B. Hays Scholarship Program
The Wayne B. Hays Scholarship was created two years ago in memory of Hal Hays’ father, Wayne B. Hays. Every year HHCI awards numerous scholarships to HHCI employees and family members to further their education and career goals.

Spirit of Excellence Gala-California Baptist University, Riverside
For the third year in a row, HHCI has been a sponsor of The Spirit of Excellence Gala. One hundred percent of the proceeds go directly to the Cal Baptist University scholarship fund that is used specifically for scholarships that fund the cost of attending the university, including tuition and housing.

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. San Diego Alumni Chapter Clancy Davis and Bobby Hatcher Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament
HHCI participted in the Clancy Davis and Bobby Hatcher Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament by serving as a “Hole Sponsor”. Raised funds contribute to KAP’s annual scholarship program. HHCI is proud to support the Kappa Alpha Psi’s heritage of “training for leadership since 1911”.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNITY

HHCI provides both monetary and work donations to numerous religious organizations, including: Harvest Christian Fellowship, California Baptist University and Calvary Chapels in Southern California. The firm is honored to help these organizations with their facility projects through the donation of time and work crews.
