HHCI Heritage

In 1990, following a successful 21 year-long career in his family’s timber industry business, Hal Hays founded Hal Hays Forestry, with 1 bulldozer, 1 excavator and 1 truck, and began work in forestry services, wildland firefighting, and burned ecosystems rehabilitation.

In 2002, Hal and Denise Hays incorporated Hal Hays Construction, Inc. (HHCI), and expanded the firm’s service areas to include the federal, military and government marketplace in Heavy & Civil Engineering Construction, Commercial & Institutional Buildings, Site Preparation & Demolition, Emergency Response Services and Utility System Construction projects.

Today the firm is recognized for its fast growth, superior project performance and dedication to its customers. From a humble beginning, starting with 2 pieces of heavy equipment, the firm can now provide over $6.06M in equipment resources to its clients. From initially providing service to 3 customers, the firm now serves over 50 in all branches of the military and federal agencies. From a small dedicated group of employees the firm has grown to over 80-100 experienced team members, who on a daily basis, bring to life our firm’s principles of integrity, cooperative spirit, quality, work ethic, perseverance, character, honor, trust and pride.

HHCI Accomplishments

Since 1990, the firm has successfully delivered over 400 multidisciplinary projects valued at over $142M to federal, state and military governments including CalFIRE (California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection), US Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, US Marine Corps, US Coast Guard, US Air Force, Department of Veteran Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Indian Affairs and numerous local governments.

In recognition of its quality work and project performance, HHCI continues to earn industry awards and recognition, such as the: SBA Small Business Person of the Year, Sprit of Entrepreneur award, Army Corps of Engineers Appreciation award, and numerous commendations for exceptional and outstanding project performance.
