The White House hosted a reception for award-winning business owners as President Obama spoke regarding the impact of small business in the economy. In his remarks, President Obama stated, "be extremely proud of what you've accomplished this year...your success embodies the 'American Dream'." In 1963, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed the first National Small Business Week. Since that time, awards have been given to honor small business owners and small business advocates in multiple categories including: Lender of the Year and Export Lender of the Year; Entrepreneurial Development awards; Phoenix awards; Federal Procurement awards; National Small Business Champion awards; and State Small Business Persons of the Year awards.
